In the heart of the Adirondack Mountains on Lake George sits a luxurious resort named The Sagamore. Located in Bolton Landing, N.Y., on 70-acre Green Island, The Sagamore has had a rich and colorful history since it first opened in 1883. After the Southern Adirondacks became renowned for their scenic beauty and recreational pleasures in the late 1800s, The Sagamore attracted travelers from across the nation and abroad. Listed in the National Register of Historic places in 1985, the resort is a family-friendly getaway with an array of boating opportunities.

At The Sagamore, guests have a wide choice of accommodations to match their vacation needs. fall_hotel placeThe centrally located Historic Hotel is one of the original buildings and features 100 rooms and suites elegantly decorated in Colonial revival style. The Lodges encircle the island, and feature 186 rooms and suites with fireplaces and terraces. The Condo-miniums in The Lodges are available for short-term rental. Furnished in an Adirondack style, the Hermitage has 10 bi-leveled suites overlooking Lake George. Wapanak Castle is a historic home located next to the Hotel, and it accommodates up to 12 people. Guest-room facilities include in-room cable movies, voice mail, Internet data ports, in-room safes, wet bars, room service and daily housekeeping services.

aerialThe Sagamore offers a variety of culinary options, with eight dining choices located either near the lake, overlooking it or situated on the lake. Its award-winning cuisine includes exotic and regional specialties, and features the finest ingredients. Restaurants range from the casual Mister Brown's pub to the elegant Trillium bis, which is The Sagamore's signature restaurant and a repeat recipient of the Wine Spectator "Award of Excellence." The resort's own 72-foot yacht, The Morgan, offers a unique setting for lunch or dinner, where visitors can dine while taking a scenic tour of majestic Lake George.

Most notable is the par-70, 18-hole, legendary championship Donald Ross golf course, located on 188 acres on the mainland and set among beautiful surroundings with breathtaking views from each hole. Lake George offers a myriad of water activities, including sailing, water skiing, wind surfing, parasailing, kayaking, fishing charters, and a private beach area at the resort for swimming. At the docks near the resort, there is an assortment of boats available for rental, and for guests who bring their own boats, there are two marinas close   by with boating amenities. The Sagamore Sailing School schedules quarter-day or full-day clinics, as well as sunset cruises and even sail races aboard a high-performance boat with a trained instructor.

Should the weather not permit outdoor activity, the resort has a glass-enclosed, state-of-the-art fitness center that provides  advanced equipment and complimentary exercise classes along with personal training. For ultimate rejuvenation, The Sagamore Spa offers a full range of European-style services and treatments, from facials and body wraps to Swedish massage and stone therapy.

Though its location is somewhat remote, The Sagamore's offerings are far from sparse. With a vast selection of accommodations, restaurants and recreational activities to choose from, there's always something different to experience at the resort. And with spectacular views of rolling green meadows, majestic Adirondack peaks and the blue waters of Lake George, it's no wonder this century-old resort is still a sought-after gem in the rough.
