Winners Reel In Big Prizes At Opening Wal-Mart FLW Tour Event

The Wal-Mart FLW Tour got off to a big start on Lake Toho in Kissimmee, Fla., awarding first-place finisher Brett Hite $125,000 for his final round catch of 10 bass weighing a total of 38 pounds, 9 ounces. Hite’s win is the largest margin victory in the tour’s history. He achieved his first tour-level win in only his second season of competition, beating second-place finisher Carl Svebek III by 20 pounds, 4 ounces.

Brett’s boat of choice was a Ranger Z520 Comanche powered by a V6 Evinrude E-TEC 250 H.O., and rigged with Lowrance sounders, GPS and a Minn Kota trolling motor. His preferred lure was a Phoenix vibrating jig, while his alternated between a swimming Senko and a Yamamoto 6-inch twin tail.

In addition to Hite’s win, FLW’s associated Fantasy Fishing league awarded professional bass fishing novice Christopher Toring the league’s first prize of $100,000 in association with his 10-member fantasy team’s performance at the tournament. The award is the first of seven fantasy sport prizes totaling $7.3 million to be given out during the season.

The second FLW Tour stop of 2008 will be held April 3-6 on Lewis Smith Lake in Alabama.
