The Boat To Beat

By Jennifer Dennard

The 2007 offshore racing season was a record-breaking one for the GEICO-sponsored Miss GEICO Offshore Catamaran and its AMF Offshore Racing team.

The 44-foot-long, turbine-powered boat — built by Marine Technologies Inc. — garnered 10 first-place overall finishes and a number of competitive records, including the world speed record in powerboat racing with 188.24 mph.

It also became the first offshore racing team to hold four world championships simultaneously, collecting titles at the Offshore Performance Association World Champion’s, Offshore Performance Association World Champion’s, Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association World Champion’s and Super Boat International World Champion’s events.

The Miss GEICO team is looking to hold onto its titles at the more than 20 events it has scheduled for the 2008 racing season.
