Winners Abound At Inaugural PWC Drag Racing Event
by Jennifer Dennard
The Riva Racing HydroDrag Spring Nationals — the first APBA-sanctioned PWC drag race event — and
WaterTop PWC Rally saw participants come from eight states and Puerto Rico to compete in a number
of events in Sebastian, Fla.
Dan O’Keefe won two first place HydroDrag trophies — in the Hydro Limited and Hydro Unlimited
classes — on his Jet Dream-powered Sea-Doo RXP and Riva Racing stage 3 Sea-Doo RXP PWCs. Jodi
Mosses, riding a Kawasaki STX, took second place in the Hydro Limited class, while Jason Murchese
placed third in the Hydro Unlimited class on a Rotax 4-TEC-powered Yamaha GPR.
Vince Williams took first place in the Hydro Stock class on his Sea-Doo RXP, while Robin
Fratto took first place in the Hydro Vintage class on her Yamaha WaveBlaster. Speed competitions
saw Nick Ziegler take first place in the Speed Alley class and Murchese place first in the Speed
Alley Unlimited class.
The competition also gave the crowd a chance to view the brand-new WaterTop Launch Pad
starting system, which uses a drop-bunk system to lift PWCs out of the water so that only the water
jet-pump touches the surface.
PWC free-stylists Josh Lustic and Lloyd Butler treated the crowd to a freestyle show during
the event. Spectators also got a chance to experience demo rides on the new Sea-Doo RXP-X and
RXT-X, area tours of the Indian River and Sebastian Inlet, and poker run at the WaterTop PWC Rally.
Riva Racing HydroDrag Fall Nationals will take place at the same location this fall. The next
WaterTop PWC Rally will be held May 10-11 in St. Petersburg. For more information, visit
