If reclining is your thing, the SunCatcher X322 RC is your huckleberry. Rear loungers are still one of the hottest floorplans today, and it’s almost a litmus test for builders to see whose designers can execute this seemingly simple but deceptively difficult task. SunCatcher nailed it with twin recliners that reside within the confines of the stylish fencing, for passenger security. They have the perfect amount of recline, and there are no weird headrests or bulges or badges to interfere with your lounging comfort. Residing in between is a newly designed cockpit table that’s larger than on previous models for more refreshment parking space.

If you are late in calling for reclining “dibs,” you can fall back on two more layback benches forward. The starboard-side lounger is reserved for taller passengers, but the one to port can handle a 6-footer. All four couches have loads of storage underneath in rotomolded bins and are accessed by flipping seat bottoms inward on their piano hinges, which keep lids open without you having to hold them.

The copilot and driver sit atop upscale captain’s chairs that have armrests for added comfort and can be optioned to include the ability to recline. The skipper sits behind a curved dash that includes an instrument array that includes an hourmeter, two 12v receptacles as well as a standard Garmin Echo 200 fishfinder. This year, X-series boats have been upgraded to include a new Sony Bluetooth digital media stereo with waterside and remote controls and USB and MP3 inputs.

All lounging aside, the X322 RC is ready for vertical action with an X Tri-Log performance upgrade that includes three U-shaped, 23-inch by 25-inch logs. Lifting strakes on both sides of the outer logs provide a tremendous amount of lift out of the hole as well as flat cornering. One thing is certain when you are on a new SunCatcher pontoon: When you look back, you are going to see gray at the transom, since G3 is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yamaha. Although this 22-foot, 6-inch-long pontoon is rated to handle Yamaha’s new 225 SHO outboard, it performed well with an F150. On plane in just 2.5 seconds, it reached 30 mph in 6 seconds and hit a top speed of 33.8 mph.
