Five Things About Boating

We often forget about all the rich history that surrounds us in Southwest Florida. Our waterways are no different. Hundreds of boaters travel through passes and bays and near islands everyday without a second thought to where those names originated. Here’s some quick trivia for the next time you are out and about on the waves:

• A wooden swing toll bridge was first built between Fort Myers Beach and the mainland in 1921. The toll was 50 cents for five people. In 1926, a hurricane washed it away. That’s why it is called Hurricane Pass.
