Boat-Reviews

Those who lump deckboats into the same category as minivans haven’t checked out Hurricane’s new SD 2200 I/O Xtreme. This is a stylish deckboat with attitude, announced by sleek lines, wrap-around windshield, bold new graphics and optional thru-hull exhaust, ported on the sides like a custom Corvette.

At the heart of the Xtreme package is a sturdy aluminum wakeboard tower that helps keep weight to a minimum with a fabric Bimini. Wakeboarders who like to rock while they bust a move won’t be disappointed by the quad Infinity speakers facing rearward on the tower and high output MP3 Sony stereo with subwoofer that gives the system a nice thump.

Seating for the crew is outstanding with flip-up bolster bucket seats that swivel, are adjustable fore and aft, but not up and down. The L-lounge in the cockpit features some nice styling touches and reclining bowriders up front are treated to chaise lounges with the proper amount of backrest recline. There's easy-to-access storage compartments underneath all lounge seats, and families will appreciate the ability to add a Porta Potti - something not all 22-footers can boast. For those who like a little fishing when they are not skiing, Hurricane allows you to option it up with fishing seats, rod holders, a livewell and electronics that can be flush-mounted in the dash.

Our test boat is powered by MerCruiser’s 350 MAG MPI with the twin prop Bravo 3 outdrive, which proved to be a perfect match. Even without the benefit of having several passengers sitting in the stern like you would on a boat with no ballast system, we are able to plow up a decent recreational jumping wake at 20 mph by trimming the outdrive up. Despite choppy lake conditions, we got on top and smoothly glided over the slop thanks to the beefy hull that weighs 4,665 pounds and helps give it a solid feel.
