For 2014, the Premier Intrigue 250 has been given an excitement transplant that will keep pontoons trending hot. The most striking change is the addition of the optional powder-coated aluminum Sport Arch, which not only adds watersports functionality to the mix but also radiates an aura of coolness. There’s even a moon roof for a little extra wow factor, plus a mini Bimini to throw a little shade. If that doesn’t impress your guests, press a button at the amidships wet bar and a wine-glass rack rises electronically — while you say, “The name is Bond, James Bond.”
This year the Flexsteel couches Premier uses have been redesigned to make them even deeper, such as the one in front of the captain, which swallows you in cushiness. To port you have a pair of luxurious captain’s chairs that have extra-tall backrests for support, and they swivel and recline. Premier unveils a new rich-looking curly maple faux-wood look for its two slim-line cockpit tables and the dash accents. In the stern are a pair of wraparound recliner couches that have a standard filler sectional placed in between to turn the stern into a gigantic conversation pit. Underfoot is optional Seagrass flooring that’s padded for comfort and a faux-teak rear deck for added ambiance.
At the helm, the driver holds a curly maple wheel and sits on a raised helm platform behind a automotive dash with carbon-fiber panels. It features a Beacon touch-screen color display that controls the stereo as well as GPS functions and even displays engine diagnostic information. It has a video input, so if you rig the tower with a camera, everyone can instantly watch your last crash and burn. The bangin’ stereo on our test boat is the upgraded Polk Audio that gives you a powered subwoofer and six speakers, including two on the Sport Arch.
Our test pontoon features the PTX three-tube package, which has a 36-inch center tube for greater performance and seaworthiness. When you throw it hard into a corner, it leans in like a sport boat and hooks up fantastically. It is powered by a Yamaha F250 that is circled by a Turbo Swing ski tow ring that is perfect for slaloming or tubing. The Yamaha pushed the 250 Intrigue to plane in 3.2 seconds, hit 30 mph in 7.5 seconds and reached a top speed of 42 mph.
