Good point, George. If you'll look at the warranty included with a Rule pump, you'll find it excludes most sources of water. Now, WHY would one buy a pump that isn't warranteed to deal with rain, leaking seals, etc? Because the warranty is sealed inside the package, and you don't learn anything until the SECOND one!

To ALL...
Yes, it's Michael Gierke again. Aka "Bones"
The watertime is not over, but online time is.
Our DQ contract is at an end this coming 12/10 and the future is not looking good. Getting burned by longtime friends.
What life will bring at 50 years of age is beyond me. I'm NOT afraid of interviewing, or all the BS, just going back into the waters at my age.
Peace! Love! Happiness! (Sound familiar? )
And for those that read my name above....Facebook.

Don't forget PERKO products. Less expensive. And leave out West Marine for 99.9% of purchases. (Unless your income is 200K or higher)

I was just on vacation on Don Pedro Island in southwest Florida and ended up renting a 1990s-something 17-foot Mako with a 2001 carbureted two-stroke for $!00 a day for the week because my 25-foot center console was too big for the area (shallow water, low bridges).
It was really interesting because it's been a while since I've I spent a lot of time on an older boat.
It was pretty spartan with no instruments including no gas gauge.
I'm kind of spoiled with getting to run mostly new equipment.
A couple of observations:
The boat was perfect for the waters we were in. It handled the chop pretty well and drew very little water and had a nice wide-open layout.
The Yamaha ran great although the smoke and unburned fuel that was visible on the water when I would start it was a bit disconcerting. It really make me appreciate the new technology.

Unfortunately, the only hardy freshwater shark is the bull shark, which is one of the more aggresive species and a little hard swimmers. I say we introduce them into the Potomac ; )

Believe it or not, using bubble barriers, is one of the options the Army Corps has on the table.
Along the "fight fire with fire" line of thinking, why not import Fresh Water Sharks to control the Asian Carp? Not only would they thrive on the carp and control their population, but sport fishermen in Michigan would stand in line for the opportunity to land one of these fresh water monsters:
That would be the best thing for great lakes fishing since we imported trout and salmon.

The VHF is nice for the NOAA weather channels as well as for communication. Of course you can get just a weather radio from Radio Shack for a lot less money.

I don't think any boat manufacturers install bilge pumps to save a boat sinking from a major mechanical or hull failure. The pumps are merely sized to handle incidental water from running in rough seas, rain, or general recreational activity.
