A Quick Guide to HydroFest, Detroit’s 101-year-old River Racing Event

Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers 2017 HydroFest is in its 101st year of hydroplane racing along the Detroit River, where cruiser boats reach top speeds up to 200 miles per hour.
The first hydroplane race took place in 1915 on the Detroit River and has been continuously held since then. It became a tradition in Detroit when designer Christopher Columbus Smith, of the Chris Craft boat company, built a Detroit-based boat reaching 60 mph.
