When a sheriff’s deputy saw it after midnight Monday morning, heavy rain was pounding Noel Speranza’s 28-foot boat maybe a mile from the beach at Sarasota County’s Point of Rocks.
Speranza, sound asleep, was unaware his vessel had moved during the night from its secure position. He says had Deputy Jay Patella not been so alert and taken action, the center-console power boat would have been lost.
As is, Speranza is delighted with the rescue and full of praise for the all the Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies involved.
