For many anglers, the 2012 coastal fishing season has been one of guessing and wondering. Mother Nature continues to have a sack full of tricks to outsmart the smartest, most of the time giving no logical explanation as to the outcome.
Take spotted sea trout, historically at the top of the list in popularity with inshore and near-shore fishermen. Earlier in the year there was concern the fishery may have had a setback, and there definitely were weeks after weeks when reports indicated catchable-size trout were hard to find.
