A Baltimore-based institution departed today after more than two decades calling the city it’s home port.
The floating former tanker, now the USNS Comfort, painted white with big red crosses on the bow, bridge, and amidships is saying bon voyage to Baltimore.
The ship, fully staffed, has 1,200 civilian and military personnel on board and has seen action during military deployments in the Persian Gulf area plus New York City after 9-11.
The ship departed Baltimore today at 7 a.m. for three days of sea trials before heading to Norfolk, Va., it’s new home port, according to Jessica Alexander with the Navy Military Sealift Command.
