WAUSA, NE — When Lewis & Clark Lake near Gavins Point Dam opened in 1955, area residents sought to enjoy the lake for recreation. But boating was a new adventure that many families had only heard or read about.

Enter Don and Harlan Hult, carpenters from Wausa.

They produced and sold hundreds of HultCraft wooden boats that were used on the lake, mostly for water skiing.
