Schroon Lake will be the latest Adirondack lake to be outfitted with a boat inspection and decontamination station, as efforts continue to build a parkwide defense network to fight aquatic invasive species.
The towns of Schroon in Essex County and Chester and Horicon in Warren County are working on a long-term program on the 9 mile-long Schroon Lake. The Schroon River flows out of the lake to the Hudson River.
The program includes paid trained inspectors who would spot signs of invasives and decontaminate boats with high-pressure hot water when needed. The estimated annual cost of the program is about $30,000.
