Hidden Feature, Open Tribute

The FDR Memorial in Washington, D.C., is a well-known attraction, but a lesser known monument to the 32nd president sits waterside in nearby Maryland — Cambridge, to be exact. Roosevelt’s presidential yacht, USS Potomac, included a false smokestack that actually housed an elevator the wheelchair-bound POTUS used to move between decks. A replica of that stack now sits in tribute in Long Wharf Park, whose wharf was redeveloped under the Works Progress Administration and served as a homeport to Potomac.
