Long, Long Way from Home

Carolina Dreamer Bermuda 6 copyIN MAY 2015, students at St Andrew’s School of Math and Science in Charleston, S.C., launched a tiny boat fitted with a GPS tracker into the Atlantic Ocean. Nine months later and almost 4,000 miles away from where it began — after a re-launch from Bermuda where it made landfall — Carolina Dreamer was discovered on a beach in Wales by a family walking along the beach. The students had lost track of the boat after its GPS signal failed on Feb. 2, so the boat’s discovery later that month had them elated. The plan is to re-launch the boat from Ireland this summer.
