.SYNOPSIS FOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WATERS...
A dangerous and prolonged storm system will impact the coastal waters
through Friday, characterized by high-end Storm Force winds, very
steep seas, and the potential for waterspouts.
* Significant Hazards:
* Storm Force Winds: Southerly wind gusts of 55 to 65 kt are
likely, particularly near the frontal boundary and in the
outer waters.
* Hazardous Sea State: Combined seas will build rapidly,
exceeding 20 feet in many areas. These will be dominated by
a very steep southerly wind wave, creating chaotic and life-
threatening conditions.
* Severe Convection: A line of organized showers and
thunderstorms will cross the waters into Thursday.
Waterspouts, erratic wind gusts, and small hail are possible
near these storms.
* Meteorological Context: This system is fueled by a strengthening
low-pressure trough and a potent low-level jet (60-70 kt at
2500 ft). This energy will mix down to the surface, especially
as the front moves through. Unlike previous fast-moving systems,
this low will linger off the coast for 18–24 hours, leading to
a more sustained period of hazardous conditions.
* Outlook: Conditions will gradually improve Friday as the system
fills and weakens, though elevated seas will persist. Drier
weather and lighter northerly winds are expected for the
weekend.
