Stretching exactly 25 feet from swim platform to bow tip, the new Chaparral 25 Surf creates a crisp surfing wave, packs in maximum seating, converts easily from action to lounging and, oh yeah, includes a head compartment with a standard portable toilet or an optional electric head. It’s all-day bona fides are enhanced by a 65-gallon gas tank. Surf Gate technology from Malibu combines with a standard ballast system to create a surfable wave that is not only tall and powerful but that can be switched to the other side on the fly — by the surfer, if the boat owner opted for the Surf Band, which the rider wears to control things. A 14-passenger capacity gives the 25 Surf several hundred more pounds of ballast.
Despite all four power options — all Volvo Penta V-8s, 300, 350 and 380 hp — being attached to sterndrives, surfing is safe thanks to Volvo Penta Forward Drive, which turns the twin counter-rotating props forward and tucks them farther under the hull.
Finding a place for every rear end to sit on the Chaparral 25 Surf isn’t going to be an issue, though finding enough friends for every seat might be, depending on the owner’s social disposition. An aft-facing bench seat at the transom, an L-shaped settee and two-person bench in the cockpit, a captain and companion seat, and a wraparound settee in the bow comprise the seating. The transom bench and the forward-facing portion of the L-settee share a backrest, and when it’s pushed forward, the area becomes a multiperson sun lounge.
Skiers will appreciate the ski tow that’s integrated into a stainless steel transom grabrail that resides in a cutout at the aft of the swim platform. A stainless ladder is hidden under a hatch next to it. Surfers and boarders will get good lift out of the water from the watersports tower.
Hand-stitched upholstery, multiple flooring options, teak table inlays, electronics upgrades and tower speakers are just a few of the ways buyers can dress up this $123,575 base price model.
