Anglers Need Help Pulling 1,041-pound Marlin Into Small Boat

Cameron Thorp, a part-time skipper of Akura Fishing Charters in Rarotonga, caught a 1,041-pound blue marlin while fishing with Brendan Gardiner in a local fishing tournament off the Cook Islands. It was the first “grander” caught worldwide in 2019. Thorp battled the huge marlin for five hours, but it took another half-hour getting it into the small Polynesian-style fishing boat. It took four people to get the fish on the boat, and it barely fit. The grander earned Thorp the tournament victory and $1,000 prize.
