A Houston man remained Thursday in the Washington County Jail in Brenham after he and two companions were arrested in the middle of a roadway, allegedly trying to finish attaching a 17-foot stolen boat to their vehicle.
Gabino Ibarra, 20; Edward Aleman, 19; and Zackary Dowland, 21, were arrested about 4:30 a.m. May 28 on FM 1948 near Somerville Lake in a sport utility vehicle pulling a boat and trailer, Washington County Sheriff Otto H. Hanak said.
Deputy Art Senteno, who was on routine patrol, had come across the three men as they were stopped in the road, the sheriff said.
“He stops to help them because he thinks they’ve had a mechanical problem,” Hanak said.
