Plans flounder for boating museum in Geneva

HAMMONDSPORT — The Finger Lakes Boating Museum is on the move.

After a four-year pending partnership with the City of Geneva fell through recently, the museum’s board of directors was given until the end of March to vacate their temporary quarters or pay $1,500 a month in rent.

Easter weekend found the board and volunteers forming a dryland flotilla of flatbed trucks, trailers and cars with hitches, ferrying 75 of the museum’s collection of historical boats from Geneva to a Taylor Wine warehouse in Hammondsport owned by Bud Meade.

“We are pursuing other locations,” said Ed Wightman, museum vice president. “Right now, we’re glad to have the storage.”
