MILWAUKEE, April 11, 2019 – Home to thousands of recreational boats, Milwaukee has never had affordable 24/7 on-water assistance available to boaters — until now. Capt. Gareth Stamm, owner of four TowBoatUS locations, including nearby Racine, has opened TowBoatUS Milwaukee just in time for the summer boating season. Boaters needing routine assistance with dead batteries, soft ungroundings, running out of fuel, or a tow back to the launch ramp or marina now have professional, around-the-clock assistance available.
“Milwaukee is a robust city with a vibrant boating community,” said Stamm. “No longer are the area’s boaters underserved by the commercial towing industry.” Stamm’s locations are part of a network of 44 TowBoatUS locations on the Great Lakes and 300 across the country. Much like an auto club for recreational boat owners, BoatUS offers an Unlimited Freshwater Towing Membership. Regularly priced at $85, Stamm is offering a special introductory price of $60 to local boaters for the first year ($85 thereafter) if purchased from TowBoatUS Milwaukee directly.
Stamm explained that prior to the opening of TowBoatUS Milwaukee, local first responders provided non-emergency assistance to boaters in the area, but most folks recognize their primary job is to save lives. “Local governments have also had growing concerns over liability issues related to providing non-emergency on-water services and the burden it imposes on taxpayers,” added Stamm. “We fit right in by providing meaningful, routine assistance to boat owners at an affordable price and help local law enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard focus on their primary roles of saving lives and ensuring boaters’ safety.
“Along with voices from the local boating community, marinas and yacht clubs, first responders here have long said that non-emergency vessel-assistance services were desperately needed. We are very excited about the opportunity to make our services a valued asset to the boating community in Milwaukee.”
Managing the port for Stamm is Capts. Garret Burleson and Gert Grohmann. “Finding two highly qualified local captains is a real blessing,” said Stamm. “They don’t grow on trees!” Backed up by Capt. Fred Stritt out of Racine and running in former Coast Guard SAFE Boats with twin outboards, this crew will be there for you when you run into trouble on the water. All TowBoatUS Milwaukee captains are U.S. Coast Guard-licensed and the company is also hazmat-certified. Separate from BoatUS on-water towing services, the company also refloats sunken boats and provides salvage services.
Located at McKinley Marina on the city’s Lower East Side, TowBoatUS Milwaukee’s stout response vessel is rigged for towing, jump starts, fuel delivery and soft ungroundings, ready to go 24 hours a day, and easily recognizable by its red hull and TowBoatUS name and logo emblazoned in bright white letters along its sides.
Boaters can reach TowBoatUS Milwaukee by hailing on VHF channel 16, by calling the company directly at 708-890-9979, by phoning the BoatUS toll-free 24/7 Dispatch Center at 800-391-4869, or via smartphone using the BoatUS Towing App. More information can be found at BoatUS.com/Membership.
